Okay everyone, I'm officially declaring tvinjapan.com open for business.
I'm going to keep double posting here for a while just to make sure that everyone knows what's happening (and I'm not convinced that the Yahoo servers are doing exactly what I need).
Why am I moving you might ask? And what am I (that's you) going to get out of the deal?
Well, mostly I'm moving because I was sick of not having any sort of category system for people to dip into my archives. After all, I've posted over 350 different videos on this site and most of them get buried real deep real fast just because I like to post so much.
Blogger's been great (especially for a noob like me) but new digs are needed.
Many of you may never have seen some of my best stuff so I hope you can dip deeper into the amazing amount of Japanese TV now available at your fingertips.
Check out the categories (down below, on the right sidebar) on the new site and you'll be able to see all of the posts nicely sorted. Once in a certain category, click on the post to take you to the video.
As of right now, I can't figure out how to have the categories open up to just have the embedded videos. Hopefully some WP genius out there can help me with that.
As far as design goes, I've used the 3k2 template with some help from the Swachuk theme. Oh and big props again to Luis Hurtado for the logo. Cafe Press store (and shirts) to come if you're interested.
Oh, one small, kinda crappy thing. Actually two crappy things.
1. I imported most of the blogger posts/comments about three weeks ago. And since then I've been double posting here. Unfortunately, that means there's no comments on the new site for the past three weeks. Kinda crappy.
2. See how there's 170 Uncategorized posts on the site? However, I'm running into a couple issues with WordPress and I'd love to be able to pick the brain of someone out there who can drop mad WP knowledge. I'm doing it from scratch and my most recent programming experience involved that little turtle from Logo.

Pink Lady & Jeff - The Worst American Sitcom About Japan Ever
Tonight I learned something new.
I learned that television can get worse than I ever imagined.
I also learned that when TV gets that bad, it suddenly turns good.
Case in point: Pink Lady & Jeff. It could perhaps be the worst TV show of all time. Sterotypes are in full effect. Check that link for more info.

Okay, so I found this clip the other night on a Japanese video blog. I wasn't sure about posting it because it seemed pretty out there.
Of course, then someone pointed out to me that this clip was pretty much everywhere already. Thanks for the morality test Internet! Glad I passed!
Anyways, the clip is below. It's fantastically weird. Info follows.
Be warned: The following contains some sexual-ish content. No real sex but lots of imagined sex. Plus, lots of crotch shots.
I'm just saying don't blame me if your eyeballs explode into flaming bibles.
Anyways, I did some digging using Google's pretty good Japanese to English translator and turned up a couple things on the show's Japanese wikipedia page. Also, hypnotist Brian David Phillips does a great job of breaking it down on his blog.
Things of note:
1. The clip comes from a show called 'E-onna A-onna ' that ran on Fuji TV in Japan from 1997 to 1998. According to the google/wiki, the title translates to 'E-woman A-woman.' What this means I have no idea.
2. Supposedly, the women are all volunteers and know exactly what they were going to be getting into to.
3. Supposedly number two, there's a gong at the beginning of the program that instigates the feelings of arousal. Then, as the 'contestants' continue along the race certain other sounds throw them back into the o-state. At various times across the race, the men standing above the women
4. It seems like the airing of this caused quite a ruckus in Japan. Many viewers thought that this might've been the most vulgar Japanese TV program of all time.
As always, I'll try to dig up more info on this as I go along. If you've got anything you can add to this post, let me know and I'll update it.

Fastest Obsession Ever - Zuiikin' English
Okay, it's official. I am now totally obsessed with Zuiikin' English, the amazing Japanese show that helps you learn English through a variety of dance moves and (I think) badly reenacted scenes from Western movies.
For example, check this amazing Terminator scene:
Here's the information that I have gleaned so far (mostly from this Google translation of the show's home page):
1. I believe the show originally aired in 1992 but it is currently airing on Fuji TV in Japan. I am not sure if the episodes airing now are re-airs or new content.
2. I think the basic idea is that by adding muscular repetition to language learning that it will make the words/phrases sink in easier.
3. The posted clips that feature the girls dancing are from the end of the program where the entire lesson is resung/redanced to help the viewer keep the words/movements at top of mind. I'm guessing that the Terminator clip from above is part of the main show.
3. It looks like it was created to be mostly entertainment. But I could be wrong. It certainly achieves that goal in spades.

Nightscoop - My New Favorite Series on Japanese TV
The last few clips I've posted, including the one below, are from a show called Tantei Night Scoop (Detective Knight News). Which to me seems a lot like Fear Factor without any sort of prizes involved.
Wikipedia is of no help on this one so please, if you have info, drop it.
Now, check out this amazing clip where a woman who is deathly afraid of roaches is brought to a roach farm. And forced to put on a Roach suit. Then brought into a room full of what must be 100,000 of the buggers.
Of course, she is scarred for life.
Luckily, just a little later, the man with the sweater tied around his neck, takes her and her husband to witness an albino roach shedding it's normal roach skin.
Or there's this clip, which, as far as I can tell, is about how to open a giant sake bottle with the least amount of spill. Using a giant funnel. After, of course, covering the entire room in plastic.

Yes, this is what it says above. Truthfully.
The simple fact that this clip was on some sort of news program in Japan says something very distinct about Japanese TV. What exactly that is, I'm not sure.
There are people laughing in the background so I'm assuming this was some sort of lighthearted end-of-the-day news story. A filler if you will.
Obviously, not exactly safe for work. Not really safe in general.
UPDATE: According to a poster and the mighty BB, it's a spoof. I don't care. It's still damn funny.

Ice Stick That Hurts Skin
Otaku in USA - Part 2
Coal has posted the second part of Otaku in USA with excellent translations.
Comparing these guys to the clip that I just posted below, it definitely highlights the differences between how the two cultures define the role of Otaku.
This clip also highlights the extreme nerdiness that really goes into any obsession. I would imagine that the Japanese would find some of our pre-game football rituals to be as amazing and as strange as the visitor's obsession with their culture.
