Maybe The Single Weirdest Japanese TV Yet
Okay, I'm breaking form for this one. It's just too strange not to write about.
As far as I can tell, this is a game show where students are forced to watch a video of a non-English speaker struggling with trying to sound out English phrases.
The basic idea is not to laugh. Or course, this is hard because watching someone struggle with language skills is almost always cause for hilarity. Especially when you're forced to hold it in.
Unfortunately, there's a slight twist. If the student's do laugh, they are caned by masked men. Yes, full on the ground, butt in the air, painful-as-they-come, caning.
As the game goes on, the students try so very hard not to laugh. Unfortunately, they do not succeed.
You, however, are free to laugh at will.

I can explain this one. These are not students...these are comedians. They are have lost a contest and are a part of a "Butstu Game" They have to spend 24 hours not laughing, and this is one part of their punishment. It's very evil, and very Japanese, but make no mistake, these are well paid "talent"...members of Cocorico and Downtown, some of the highest paid comedians in Japan. This is from the "Gaki No Tsukai" DVD specials recently released. Really funny masochistic stuff.

I miss jimmy onishi. he was such a great comedian. then he wanted to be a artist. so he quit being a comedian. I think his art is shit, but his comedy is great. jimmy onishi is the guy in the video says 10 10 10 10 10. if you are a genius, don't waste it on art. waste it on good comedy.
I'm glad pacific dreams shed some light on the subject... still bizarre as hell though. But of course I laughed my ass off all the way through too. 10 10 1, 10 10 2, 10 10 3... hahahahaha!
This clip is so funny. I really suffer with the guy in the middle that cant put a sock in it. But i Really whould want to know what it is he is muttering between each swing.Hehe.

really strange how people find english such a problem as third or second language, my cousins in tunisia really would go through the whole 10 10 10 10 ... thing too,and i'm sure they wouldn't do a much better job with the whole marco polo text either (at least this guy was acting...)

It's not really a contest but it's for show. I've seen the full clip in which they act as students for 24 hours in a school where you can not laugh or there will be a punishment for you. During the whole 24 hours, they have multiple things they do to them making them laugh.
