The Tanuki

A couple people have commented that the squirrel with big nuts in the Little Red Riding Hood commercial (down a few posts) is not a squirrel at all.

It's a Tanuki.

What's a Tanuki you might ask?

It's stranger than you might ever have dreamed.

The image you have linked on this post is from the film Pom Poko, which is a Studio Ghibli (Spirited Away, Mononoke, etc.) production and widely available in the US. I highly recommend it: The raccoons are instructed in how to become Tanuki in order to stave off the influx of suburban housing developments. There are scenes of Tanuki using their scrotums as trampolines and parachutes, and one scene in which a Tanuki grows his satchel large enough to envelop an entire city bus. Big freaking bawlz, man.
